The Davison High School Bowling program hosted the first ever Mixed
Doubles Tournament at Nightingale Lanes on Saturday, December 23rd. The
tournament attracted 17 doubles teams from around the area, with teams
from Davison, Kearsley, Grand Blanc, Carman Ainsworth and Swartz Creek
represented. The format consisted of 3 individual games per bowler and 2
Baker format games and then the field was cut to the top 16 teams, where
they were seeded according to total actual pinfall. The high qualifiers
for the tournament were Ethan Cross and Ashley Blakely from Grand Blanc
High School. Ethan had the high individual actual game of the tournament
with a 267 game. The 2nd highest seeded team was CJ Curtis and Crystal
Isaac from Swartz Creek. Crystal led all girls in the individual scoring
with a 240 game and a 640 series. The highest actual series for the boys
was a 694 actual shot by Tyler Beaty from Kearsley, which led him and
his partner Angila Washington to a 3rd place seeding. Once the seating
were set, the format turned to a best 2 out of 3 with all games being
Baker format, total score did not come into play, just wins and losses.
The first round saw 5 of the 8 lower seeded teams winning their matches
with only 2 matches being won after 2 games. The second round saw the
number 9 seeded team of Chris Snyder and Kelly Harwell knock of the top
seeded team of Cross/Blakley and also the number 7 seeded team of David
Wheeler and Samantha Deaton knock of the 2nd seed of Curtis/Isaac. In
the 3rd round the doubles team of Snyder/Harwell knocked off the doubles
team of Doug Stamm and Kristen Koliopolous from Kearsley and the team of
Wheeler/Deaton knocked off the doubles team of Kaylah and Brent Foley
from Swartz Creek. The winning game for the Davison pair featured the
tournaments highest Baker game of 290. This set up the all Davison
finals of Snyder/Harwell vs. Wheeler/Deaton. The final match saw
Wheeler/Deaton defeated Snyder/Harwell 258 to 223 in the first match.
The second match came down to the 10th frame and the (2) teams tied 171
to 171 so a 2 frame roll off with 9th and 10th frame formats was used to
determine the winner and Wheeler/Deaton defeated Snyder/Harwell 48 to 17
in the 2 frame roll off to win the first ever tournament. The tournament
winners received a plaque to display at the High school and medals. The
2nd place finishers also received medals as did the high individual
scorers. The final scores and standings are available by clicking the
